About Kei-Rin
Thank you for inquiring about Kei-Rin.
We live outside of Park Falls, Wisconsin, on 40 acres of land, used for hunting and enjoyment. We have a beautiful river running along our property and two small ponds we use for field training. We have a 15 run, indoor/outdoor heated kennel, with a fenced paddock. However, all of our dogs go for runs with us through the woods and are trained to stay in our large yard, so they can run freely. Although we typically have around 10 dogs at any time, they all recieve personalized attention to the best of our ability. Each dog takes their turn in the house.
OUR NAMES
The name Kei-Rin comes from Pam's childhood memories of a mythical unicorn. "Kei-Rin" was a symbol for power and endurance, as well as beauty and grace. Some myths also attribute magical qualities to this unicorn.
The AWS are a true American Original, so we try to name all of our water spaniels with a "Wild West" sort of theme.
The English Setters are all named after music in some way, whether is be a song title, favorite line, or musician. We try to work the names into a theme: ZZ's children are all named after ZZ-Top songs or albums.
We have been raising American Water Spaniels since 1985; however Randy's experience dates back to the 50's when his parents and great grandparents raised AWS under the names Silver Tower and Birchwood. We strive to raise the same hearty hunters he grew up with, while improving structure. Our line comes from Paul Bovee's famous kennel in central Wisconsin.
We acquired our first English Setter in 1995. Before that we had co-owned several dogs until finally deciding to get a setter of our own, from RockRainbow English Setters. Since then we have added ZZ to our crew, and produced one litter with 5 pointed offspring to date. We are continuing to build a foundation by bringing in new lines for our English Setter line.
We value temperment above all. Let's face it, in the end, the dog will always be your companion. Next to temperment, we value health. Thanks to technology we can test our dogs for hereditary problems. All of our dogs are OFA hip and cardiac certified before they are bred, as well as CERF testing for their eyes. We also use Penn H.I.P. before they are tested for OFA. The setters are also tested for thyroid problems. We do everything we can to ensure that you, the puppy buyer, gets the healthiest companion. However, even OFA excellent hips can produce dysplastic puppies. In any case, we stand by our dogs and offer to work with you through any possibility.
By no means are we a large operation. We usually breed one litter a year. Our dogs are born in our bedroom and weather permitting, at 3-4 weeks of age they go outside in the "puppy yard". There they learn to venture out in to the world.
We always try to match the right dog to the right person or family. It is very important to us for our dogs to go to the right home. That is why it is helpful for buyers to visit our home and meet the dogs. We are always willing to work out a date to meet you. It can be hard to find the right dog at the "right time", so if you are interested in our breeds, feel free to get in touch with us. We know many other reputable breeders, and chances are we can help point you in the right direction if we don't have any dogs available or suitable for your needs and desires.
